India has the third largest higher education system, with 37.3 million students and 1.4 million teachers. With India moving past China in terms of population, and the increase of post-school enrolment, India is on track to become the largest higher education nation.
However, the higher education sector is facing many challenges including for those who work and study it in. India has a federal system and most of the policies and regulations affecting higher education are at state level.
There is a severe shortage of resources at all levels. There are also issues of social and cultural equity in educational provision and participation.
Internationalisation and foreign university involvement in India are subject to ongoing debate. Should India aspire to world-class universities? If so, how might that goal be achieved?
This webinar brings together speakers from two Indian universities to discuss these issues.
Speakers
- Jyoti Arora, Jawaharlal Nehru University
- Saumen Chattopadhyay, Jawaharlal Nehru University
- Rupamanjari Ghosh, Shiv Nadar University
