Ethnic minorities in China: challenges and opportunities
In this talk, Professor Robert Adamson will consider the potential of ethnic minority groups, focusing on mainland China and Hong Kong.

This talk looks at the different forms of capital possessed by ethnic minority groups as largely untapped resources in education for development.
Professor Adamson will consider the potential of such groups, which is often overlooked as government and mainstream society regard them in terms of deficiency (in learning, linguistic skills, socio-economic status, political power, and so on).
He will discuss the ways in which ethnic minority groups might be empowered by major initiatives (such as the Belt and Road), and identify obstacles that need to be overcome on the way.
