Drawing on fieldwork focused on student migration from India to Germany, Dr Sazana Jayadeva examines the increasingly central yet understudied role of social media in facilitating postgraduate level transnational student mobility from India.

She will examine how prospective students aspiring to study for a master’s degree in Germany—previously unknown to each other—are connecting with each other by means of Facebook and WhatsApp groups and supporting each other through the application process. She also explores new formats of education consultancy that are developing on social media platforms.

Dr Jayadeva will conclude with a discussion about the challenges these new types of migration infrastructure created on social media platforms are posing to traditional forms of education consultancy.
