The Thomas Coram Research Centre at the UCL Institute of Education (IOE) and Southlands Arts Centre present the UK premiere of Johan Bävman's photographs 'Swedish Dads'. Launched on Father's Day, this family-friendly interactive day, will explore and celebrate the changing roles of fathers, mothers and other carers in the UK and internationally.
Child rearing has traditionally been the preserve of women but a growing number of fathers in Sweden have begun to see the advantages of taking parental leave and developing close ties with their children early on. The exhibition explores how Swedish fathers view the modern male role in contrast to the traditional, stereotype parental role.
Various events will take place so that families can engage with and contribute to the exhibition and celebration:
- Arts and crafts room for children
- Family portrait room
- Outdoor family picnic
- Food stalls
Join the conversation on social media with #SwedishDadsUK.
The exhibition preview takes place on 13 June at the think tank forum 'Advancing parental leave equality for fathers'.
