CLEAN teaching and learning
Understanding how to navigate a climate-impacted world is central to our students’ education.
The UCL Social Research Institute offers specific learning opportunities as well as extra-curricular activities around sustainability, supporting departmental and UCL-wide goals. Please see links below to the latest information on the module catalogue:
- Environment and Climate Change (SOCS0078)

SRI Green Impact Team
From September 2024, the SRI Green Impact team is working towards an award in line with sustainability targets at UCL. If you want to get involved in supporting this initiative and improving sustainability in the department, please contact: sri.clean@ucl.ac.uk.
SRI Sustainability Representatives
There are three undergraduate reps that work alongside members of staff on sustainability projects in the department to improve our practice and raise awareness about pro-environmental behaviours, as well as informing the department around related student interests and issues. If you are interested in finding out more about sustainability opportunities and/or for induction information for SRI students, please contact: sri.clean@ucl.ac.uk.
The areas of sustainability that I’m most interested in are social justice, urban development, promoting biodiversity, and sustainable farming practices. As a Sustainability Rep, I hope to create a culture where sustainability is at the forefront of all future decisions made by various stakeholders within the SRI. I also hope to give students the confidence and means to adopt climate-friendly behaviours in their daily lives and at university.

Third year Social Sciences BSc student
I am interested in the waste reduction and upcycling aspects of sustainability. As an SRI Sustainability Rep I hope to create a cleaner, greener and more efficient environment on campus!
Jannah Haque
Third year Sociology BSc student
When I’m not studying lecture readings while sipping coffee near campus, I’m figuring out how to live sustainably as a student – whether it’s rotating Tesco reusable bags for groceries or turning leftovers into lunch prep! I’m excited to work with the team to make sustainability more accessible for all of us at UCL.
