Deepening understanding of teaching and learning
We explore the dimensions and dynamics of teaching and learning about the Holocaust through groundbreaking research. By shining a light on specific challenges this robust approach illuminates new paths requiring further investigation. Our methodologies have provided a model for researchers in Holocaust education around the globe.
National studies
The Centre has conducted three landmark national studies. Two studies, published in 2009 and 2023, explored teaching practice within Holocaust education. The other national study, published in 2016, was a large-scale investigation with almost 10,000 students, to look at their knowledge and understanding of the Holocaust. Another survey with students is underway to examine how the landscape of Holocaust education has developed in recent years. The Centre continues to conduct research including ongoing evaluation of its professional development courses and case study research with schools participating in the Centre’s Beacon School Programme.
