Beacon Schools
Learn more about the Beacon School Programme in the Centre for Holocaust Education.
Beacon School Programme
The Beacon School programme is the flagship project of the Centre, helping transform Holocaust teaching in hundreds of schools and improving the learning of thousands of students across the country.
The Beacon School Programme embodies CPD which is research-informed, immersive, and sustained – with evidence suggesting this is the most effective form of teacher training. By working closely with teachers over an extended period we can help them raise teaching standards, embed the principles of good practice in their schools and bring about lasting impact on a generation of students through curriculum change.
Quality Mark
Since 2016 the Beacon School Quality Mark award has recognised the commitment of those schools engaged in ongoing quality provision and innovative approaches to Holocaust education.
Beacon Schools who wish to apply for this recognition compile an evidence base of their best practice and showcase their school to Centre staff. Through work scrutiny, observation and interviews with school staff and students, these schools are given a platform to demonstrate their achievements and show how they have transformed Holocaust education in their school.
