The College is an integral part of IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society. It draws on and contributes to the expertise of the entire faculty, which collectively makes the world’s broadest and most granular contribution to the understanding of how education can be used to improve lives.
Partnerships
The IOE Teacher Education College is founded on its partnerships with schools and school leaders from around the world. We combine this with our in-house, world-leading research programme to provide world-class education and professional development.
Our mission is to educate, develop and support independent, free-thinking professionals
That’s why we don’t subscribe to any one pedagogy or doctrine. Instead, we are open – to new ideas, new research and to your real-life experience – as the key to progress and achieving excellence.
It will be a place where research, education and practice intersect under one umbrella – giving us ever-greater reach and expertise across all areas...

Research
Our research plays a vital role in education in schools of all kinds, globally. It has two primary goals: to address fundamental questions that have a direct bearing on all members of society, and to raise the standard of educational research.
What does that mean in practice? It means that we are focused on examining and understanding what works, what doesn’t (and why) and how teachers and leaders can use this information to improve teaching and learning in their classrooms right now.
The depth and breadth of our research work is unique. At any one time, we have around 200 research projects running in the UK and globally, which are led by more than 300 academic staff. IOE undertakes around 25% of all funded education research in the UK, and the most recent Research Excellence Framework judged 94% of that research to be world-class. We draw on partnerships with more than 30 specialist research and education centres, including the UCL Centre for Educational Leadership and the UCL Centre for Inclusive Education.
