IOE Centenary Master's Scholarships

We are delighted to be partners with International Students House (ISH) in these awards: IOE - International Students House Centenary Scholarship, and the Mary Trevelyan Centenary Scholarship (in honour of the founder of ISH).

The scholarships cover full tuition fees and accommodation for one academic year at ISH. Please note that these scholarships do not cover subsistence in London, travel or any other expenses. The scholarships are tenable for one academic year, subject to satisfactory progress.

Who can apply?

Candidates should be:

  • domiciled in an eligible low or lower-middle income country according to the World Bank classification
  • have an official unconditional offer to study a full time master's degree at IOE (letter issued by UCL Admissions)
  • not have studied or lived in the UK before.

Please note that these scholarships are not available for the MA Educational Neuroscience or for online courses.

IOE Centenary Doctoral Scholarships

We will not be offering Centenary Doctoral Scholarships for entry in 2024-25.


IOE - Fulbright Scholarships

IOE is delighted to be a partner of the US-UK Fulbright Commission. Our partnership means we can jointly provide two awards to US nationals each year:

  • An annual Postgraduate Student Award for master's study at IOE. Applications for 2022-23 for this award are now closed.
  • An annual Distinguished Teacher Award, under which selected teachers carry out a research project at IOE as part of their award programme. Applications for this award for 2022-23 will open between December and January.

For the Postgraduate Student Award, IOE covers the student's tuition fees and stipend for one year of full-time master's level study. IOE Fulbright award is an exceptionally prestigious distinction, and attracts a world-class field of candidates.

For the Distinguished Teacher Award, successful candidates receive a Fulbright grant to cover their flights, accommodation and food for the duration of the programme. IOE provides academic mentoring and a range of practical support.

Who can apply?

Citizens of the USA, provided they reside outside the UK.

IOE - Windle Trust Scholarship

IOE annually offers one master's scholarship in collaboration with the Windle Trust.

Priority is given to applicants of particular merit taking into account academic ability, need, development impact, leadership potential and personal qualities.

Who can apply?

Applicants should be:

  • refugees, internally displaced or be otherwise affected by conflict
  • from the countries of East, Central or the Horn of Africa and
  • be resident in Kenya, Uganda, Sudan and South Sudan.

IOE - China Scholarship Council (CSC) Scholarship

IOE and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) have entered into a partnership to provide one full PhD that covers:

  • IOE covers tuition fees while the CSC provides a stipend for living expenses.
  • The scholarship is tenable for up to 48 months.

Who can apply?

The award is available to all Chinese students and is awarded annually.

IOE - Clarke Scholarships

IOE is delighted to have received a donation from the family of our previous Director Sir Fred Clarke to provide scholarships for teachers from South Africa. 

These scholarships:

  • are available for practising school teachers from South Africa who wish to undertake a masters’ programme at IOE
  • will cover return flights to London, course tuition fees, and a monthly stipend for accommodation and subsistence in London.

Who can apply?

Candidates should be:

  • practicing school teachers
  • nationals and residents in South Africa
  • have an unconditional offer to study a campus based masters’ degree at IOE.

IOE Centenary - Windle Trust Scholarship

IOE is delighted to partner with the Windle Trust to offer annually one master's scholarship for online part-time study for refugees based in Africa.

Priority is given to applicants of particular merit taking into account academic ability, need, development impact, leadership potential and personal qualities.

Who can apply?

Applicants should be:

  • refugees, internally displaced or be otherwise affected by conflict
  • from the countries of East, Central or the Horn of Africa and
  • be resident in Kenya, Uganda, Sudan and South Sudan.

The Tamer Scholarship

Applications for 2024-25 now open

We are delighted to have received a donation to offer The Tamer Scholarship. The scholarship will enable a student from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or a national of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia currently based in another country to pursue the BA Media at IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society.

Who can apply?

Candidates must:

  • Be nationals of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; 
  • Be eligible to pay the overseas fee rate;
  • Come from a low income background;
  • Have submitted an admission application for the full-time BA Media programme for 2024/25 entry.

IOE - Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship

IOE and the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) have partnered to offer up to five awards for online programmes at IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society .

The scholarships are available for candidates from eligible Commonwealth countries for part-time Master’s study by distance learning on selected courses offered by IOE. 

Who can apply?

To be eligible for an IOE Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship, candidates should:

  • Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.
  • Be permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country.
  • Hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) standard. A lower qualification and sufficient relevant experience may be considered in certain cases.
  • Be unable to afford to study the programme without this scholarship.
  • Have an offer to study an eligible Master’s degree at IOE.

Please note we will not be offering these scholarships in 2024-25.


IOE - Aziz Foundation Scholarships

IOE is delighted to be a partner of the Aziz Foundation. Our partnership means we can jointly provide three awards for the academic year 2023-24, to cover full tuition fees for Master’s study at IOE.

Who can apply? 

The Scholarships will support up to three Master’s students who wish to study at IOE, and are actively engaged in British Muslim communities. The successful candidates must meet the following criteria: 

  • Be eligible for Home fees status or be a forced migrant (as defined by UCL).
  • Have accepted an offer of admission to study at IOE for the 2023/2024 academic year. 
  • Demonstrate active engagement in British Muslim communities and/or self-identify as a British Muslim.
