Catching up on in-person celebrations
Two of our doctoral graduates, Jane, age 65, and Denise, age 79, graduated from PhD programmes they started at IOE in 2019, but weren't able to attend a ceremony until now due to Covid-19. Denise said:
"My grandson Tom escorted us to the photo session and brought me a bunch of flowers, so with the proof pictures in hand, we retired to the nearby Turkish restaurant to celebrate our doctorates at last!"

IOE Academic Representative of the Year Award
The UCL Students' Union Academic Representative of the Year Awards celebrate those who went the extra mile to represent students, and have worked with staff to make student’s academic experience better.
Congratulations to the two co-winners:
- Molly (Education Studies BA), Lead Representative for the Department of Education, Practice and Society, and
- Harriet (Psychology of Education MSc), Lead Representative for the Department of Psychology and Human Development.
Students who nominated them said:
“Molly and Harriet are two students who are creating a legacy that the upcoming student reps can follow up on.”
Following student feedback, Molly and Harriet initiated a pronouns badges project and are working hard to create content to explain how to use them. “Molly has worked well beyond the requirements of the rep role,” especially when chairing a difficult staff-student panel on the UCU strikes. Harriet has worked to enhance the sense of community among reps by establishing termly meetings between Lead Department Reps and Course Reps – improving rep engagement.
