CST provision

We are currently collaborating with Peking University Health Science Centre and can provide CST training.

Research Projects

A single blind randomised control trial funded by Beijing Health Bureau was conducted by Drs. Zhaorui Liu and Yueqin Huang from 2012 to 2015. The 7-week CST programme was used in this project. Evaluation at the end of the 7th week shows CST can slow down the progress of cognitive impairment and decrease the caregiver burden. However, after the 3 month follow up, there was no difference between the intervention and control groups. This preliminary finding demonstrates that long term CST is highly needed.

The second single blind randomised control trial funded by Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission was conducted by Drs. Zhaorui Liu and Yueqin Huang from 2017 to 2021. In this project, patients with dementia were randomly divided into intervention group and control group after 7-week CST. A 16-week MCST programme was used in this project. The results showed that MCST could maintain the effect of CST in the intervention group, compared with control group. However, due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the rate of loss of follow up was high. This finding reminds us, the implementation strategy of CST may need to be adjusted. Remote or online CST is worth further research.

Currently, Dr Liu is conducting a new project funded by Beijing Municipal Health Commission from 2020 to 2024. The aim of this project is to develop ECST (Electronic CST) system. The idea of ECST is to integrate the original CST themes and activities into PAD system. So the facilitators can conveniently select materials, provide CST therapy, and manage patients. At the same time, it also provides a communication platform for CST facilitators and researchers in China.
