Senior Clinical Lecturer
I am a Senior Clinical Lecturer in intellectual disability at the Division of Psychiatry at UCL and an honorary consultant psychiatrist at the Waltham Forest community learning disability team.
My research interests include exploring the impact of stigma and discrimination on the wellbeing of people with intellectual disability. My work on stigma has included developing a valid and reliable questionnaire measuring self-reported stigma in people with intellectual disabilities, and cross culturally validating the questionnaire in South Africa. During my PhD, I completed a project that investigated the relationship between self reported stigma and a number of health outcomes, including psychological distress, quality of life, service use and adherence to treatment. I am also interested in health inequalities experienced by people with intellectual disabilities and as part of my PhD, I explored the barriers that prevent people with intellectual disabilities, and their carers, from accessing health services.
I am one of the course tutors for the MSc module on "Current Research in learning Disability" which is part of the MSc in Clinical Mental Health Sciences and Mental Health Sciences Research. I also teach undergraduate medical students.
I also lecture undergraduate medical students at UCL on intellectual disability and teach on the MRCPsych course.
