Art, Architecture and War

Art, Architecture and War (AAW) brings together research fellows and doctoral students from Ukraine (and beyond) affiliated to UCL and other London universities. It aims to provide a regular platform for research on the relationship between war and visual culture, architecture and infrastructure.

AAW came into being in October 2022, in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion and ongoing attempted genocide in Ukraine. It brings together Ukrainian researchers of art, architecture and visual culture based at UCL with scholars working on related topics. While its activities so far have focused on Ukraine, the scope of AAW’s activities – and the networks, solidarities and knowledges it aims to engender and decolonise – is much broader. All are welcome to join AAW’s events and contribute to its initiatives.

AAW is supported by UCL Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS), UCL European Institute (EI) and the FRINGE Centre at UCL SSEEES.
