Dr Kai Syng Tan

Dr Kai Syng Tan FRSA SFHEA is an artist, curator and researcher. The IAS fellowship opens up an intellectual and creative space for Kai to plan aspects of the RUN! RUN! RUN! Biennale 2018 with Dr Alan Latham, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography. A bi-annual interdisciplinary platform that brings together artists, academics and runners to explore running as an arts and humanities discourse, the pair co-curated the first Biennale in 2014. Kai will also be working with colleagues from the Slade School of Fine Art and NESTA. Intended outputs of the fellowship includes a joint funding bid, a journal article, and the completion of Kai's monograph. 

Currently a Research Fellow at Leeds College of Art and AHRC Peer Review Member,  Kai completed her PhD at the Slade School of Fine Art in 2014. Her performances, papers and installations have been shown at exhibitions like dOCUMENTA and Biennale of Sydney, and sites including MOMA, ZKM and Dom Muzyki. Recognition includes the San Francisco International Film Festival Golden Gate Award and Japan Foundation artist-in-residency award. Her works are collected by the Museum of London and Fukuoka Art Museum.
