This is an open call for scholars interested in participating in a collaborative workshop examining utopian and dystopian visions of the post-capitalist state, hosted by UCL's Centre for Capitalism Studies.

The workshop builds on last year’s series, The Capitalist State in the 2020s, which examined the return of industrial strategy to the Global North, the militarisation of the capitalist state, and the endless expansion of borders and other carceral infrastructures. This new workshop will look to the future, assembling an interdisciplinary group of scholars to ask what might come after the capitalist state.

This CFP is open to researchers at all levels, and we would particularly encourage early career academics to get in touch. Submissions spanning literature, film, games, political theory, sociology, science and technology studies, critical finance studies and more are welcomed.

Please contact Dr Matteo Tiratelli (m.tiratelli@ucl.ac.uk) by November 13th if you would like to participate, providing a 150-word abstract relating to the themes outlined below. There will be space for 3-4 participants to give brief (10-minute) presentations before leading an open discussion.
