Could you be the next Director of the Gender and Feminisms Research Network?
6 August 2025
INTERNAL - UCL staff only. The deadline for expressions of interest is 24th October 2025.
The UCL Gender and Feminisms Research Network (GFRN) is looking for a new Director, or Co-Directors.
The network brings together scholars and students at UCL (currently 50 affiliated staff and 40 PhD affiliates) to explore the points where gender and feminist politics intersect with a diverse range of power relations and social movements. The network also supports broader EDI initiatives at UCL, working towards social change and widening access to research on gender and sexual diversity. See the GFRN website for more information.
We would like to thank our amazing outgoing co-directors Alex Hyde (SELCS-CMII) and Emma Jones (IOE) for all the time, work and energy they have put into the network over the years.
The director(s) is responsible for the management and overseeing of all network activities, with the assistance of the IAS Research Centre Coordinator, Lucy Stagg (for the academic year 2025-26). There is no job description as such; it is largely up to the director(s) to make of it what they wish. It could include convening an annual events programme; developing the website; fostering and promoting doctoral research in gender and feminisms and related fields.
Although there is no financial remuneration for the position, it would suit a middle career academic looking to expand their networks, both intellectual and personal, show research leadership and build a portfolio for promotion. Academics from all stages of their careers are welcome to apply. Any teaching release or other workload adjustment associated with the role would need to be negotiated with the department and faculty concerned.
If you wish to put yourself forward for the position of Director, tenable from November 2025, please email lucy.stagg@ucl.ac.uk Please include a link to your staff page and a short statement explaining your interest in the network and your ideas for GFRN going forward (200 words max). Joint applications for a co-directorship are welcome. Informal enquiries can be addressed to Lucy or to former Co-Director Alex Hyde, a.hyde@ucl.ac.uk
The deadline for expressions of interest is 24th October 2025. Open to UCL staff only.
