Call for applications: Director of the Centre for Digital Humanities
6 August 2025
The deadline for expressions of interest is 5th September 2025. For UCL staff only.
The UCL Centre for Digital Humanities (UCLDH) is looking for a new Director (or co-directors) and a Deputy Director.
Founded in 2010, UCLDH is a cross-faculty research centre, bringing together a vibrant network of people who teach and research in a wide range of disciplines. UCLDH draws on UCL's world-class research strength especially in information studies, computing science, and the arts and humanities. It supports and coordinates work in many institutional settings throughout the university, including the library services, museums and collections. See the UCLDH website for more information: www.ucl.ac.uk/digital-humanities/
The directorships are normally held for three years and the current terms have now come to an end. We would like to thank Steven Gray and Adam Crymble for their hard work and invaluable input over the last three years.
The directors are responsible for the management and overseeing of all Centre activities, with the assistance of the IAS Research Centre Coordinator, Lucy Stagg (for the academic year 2025-26). There is no job description as such; it is largely up to the directors to make of it what they wish. However, responsibilities include chairing management group, augmenting the UCLDH Team of interested colleagues from across the college, convening an annual events programme; overseeing the UCLDH website; fostering and promoting doctoral research in digital humanities and related fields.
Although there is no financial remuneration for the position, it would suit a middle career academic looking to expand their networks, both intellectual and personal, show research leadership and build a portfolio for promotion. Academics from all stages of their careers are welcome to apply. Any teaching release or other workload adjustment associated with the role would need to be negotiated with the department and faculty concerned.
If you wish to put yourself forward for the position of Director, tenable from mid-September 2025, please email lucy.stagg@ucl.ac.uk Please include a link to your staff page and a short statement explaining your interest in the centre and your ideas for UCLDH going forward (200 words max). Joint applications for a co-directorship would also be considered.
The deadline for expressions of interest is 5th September 2025. Open to UCL staff only.
