24 October 2024

Inviting postgraduate students and postdocs across disciplines to submit papers related to ethnographic fieldwork by 31 October 2024.

-

The inaugural conference ‘Doing Ethnography: Notes from the Field’ aims to facilitate a discussion of methods, approaches, experiences and writing relating to the process of ethnographic fieldwork (broadly defined) in the UK and beyond and hopes to provide a venue for interventions into ongoing debates and discussions on ethnographic methods in its various manifestations; such as questions of care and collaboration, creative outputs, multimodal practices, ethical considerations of doing fieldwork, returning from the field and so on. Potential topics of interest may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Networks of care, collaboration, and friendship in the field
  • Ethnography in troubled times
  • Writing ethnography
  • Multi-modal ethnographic methods
  • Ethical considerations in and of the field
  • Doing ethnography beyond place: digital adaptations and conceptual boundaries

The conference organisers invite postgraduate students and postdocs across disciplines and at any stage in their research to submit papers for this conference. To do so, please complete this Google form by 31 October 2024 (one abstract per person only). Applicants will be notified of a decision by 5 November 2024. Confirmed applicants will be asked to submit a longer abstract at the time of finalisation of programme.
