Call for Work on Research Themes Growth and Traffic

1 February 2021

The UCL Institute of Advanced Studies invites proposals to respond to our current research themes of Growth and Traffic.

Growth and Traffic

In the changed conditions of this year, we encourage imaginative ideas to take these themes forward. Proposals can be for research clusters, international networks, collaborations on specific projects, panel events, workshops, symposia and so on. Projects can relate to one of the two themes or explore ways of thinking about them together. Various possible ways of thinking about each of them are set out below.

We expect most of the work to be done online, so this year we are not allocating grants of up to £2,000, as we’ve done in the past. That said, if your work would benefit from a small amount (£200-£300) to support e.g. research assistance, podcast production, one-off payment for a creative practitioner, please say so in your proposal and we’ll do our best to help. Any funds awarded will need to be spent by 31 July 2021. Proposals that do not require funding can plan for work continuing until end of December 2021.

The call is open to UCL academic staff, PhD students and post-doctoral researchers based in the arts, humanities and social sciences. PhD students must partner with a member of full-time UCL academic staff.  Cross-disciplinary collaboration is encouraged, as is work with creative practitioners, activists or policy-makers.

Please send a short outline of your proposal (1-2 pages of A4) to Catherine Stokes, c.stokes@ucl.ac.uk, by Monday 22 February 2021.

Growth and Traffic

Both of the themes are open to the widest possible interpretation and are assumed to address the concerns of many disciplines and departments while providing a frame for thinking across or even bypassing entrenched or established modes of thinking. Read more about the themes here.
