As part of the UCL Humanitarian Institute Evening Conference Series on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and convened by Dr Estella Carpi and Dr Elena Fiddian-Qasmiyeh of the Southern Responses to Displacement Project, this event will draw together a group of renowned international experts to debate different perspectives on the importance of making the Sustainable Development Goals and the South-South Cooperation framework uphold and actively promote the well-being and dignity of people affected by conflict and displacement across the global South.

This event will be of interest to anyone working in or studying in the fields of policy, strategy and/or the implementation of disaster relief or humanitarian action in the global South.

The Southern Responses to Displacement research project is funded by the European Research Council and examines Southern-led humanitarian responses to displacement from Syria in Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey. It is led by Dr Elena Fiddian-Qasmiyeh who is Reader in Human Geography, Co-Director of the Migration Research Unit, and Director of the Refuge in a  Moving World research network at UCL. Dr Estella Carpi is the Research Associate on the project. The UCL Humanitarian Institute aims to mobilise UCL's research, expertise and teaching to impact global humanitarian challenges and to promote education for global citizenship and the connected curriculum at UCL, through co-produced programmes spanning natural, social, engineering and medical sciences, the built environment, humanities, laws and ethics, creating a global university champion for the UK and aspiring to the vision of UCL 2034.

The UCL Humanitarian Institute operates from the UCL Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction. It is led by Professor Peter Sammonds(p.sammonds@ucl.ac.uk) and Dr Rosanna Smith (rosanna.smith@ucl.ac.uk). 

The event will be followed by refreshments and networking until 9pm.
