Virtual Events Code of Conduct
- Please mute your mic and video unless presenting.
- Please use the chat function to ask questions via the event chair.
- Do not post spam or offensive content of any kind.
- Please respect the other users and refrain from over-posting, bullying or harassment.
- Please do not interrupt or speak over other presenters.
- Please do not take pictures or record presenters without their permission.
- Avoid gifs, flashing images and do not post links to outside content that has not been requested.
- Please note that the session (as well as the chat function) may be recorded and retained as per UCL’s retention schedule.
Any anti-collegiate behaviour will not be tolerated. We retain the right to exclude attendees from events. Reports of harassment should be sent via email to the IAS. All reports will be kept confidential and may be submitted anonymously.
Photography and audio recording
Please note that there may be photography and/or audio recording at some events. By attending you consent to your image being used for future communications both on and off line by the Institute of Advanced Studies to promote our work. Please inform a member of staff before the event starts if you do not wish to be audio recorded/photographed.
Tickets
As our public events are free, not everyone who registers for tickets attends. To make sure we have a full house, we allocate more tickets than there are seats available and we do our best to get the numbers right. Admission is on a first come, first served basis, so please arrive in good time for the start of the event.
Entrance
The best way to get to the IAS is through UCL’s main gate on Gower Street. Head towards the far right-hand side of the main quad. Once you are in the building, please turn right twice and you will find a screen announcing our events next to the access to the main spaces of the IAS. If you need help or advice when planning your visit, please contact us.
Wheelchairs
All of our spaces are wheelchair accessible but we do not have additional wheelchairs on site. All of our venues have seating for wheelchair users and people with different access needs. Please let us know your access requirements before you visit, so that we can recommend the most suitable space for you.
Dropping off visitors
For arrivals by car, taxi, minibus or Dial-a-Ride, the most convenient set-down point is the Gower Street entrance at UCL. This gives step-free access.
Public transport
Euston Square station (westbound) and Euston station are the nearest step-free tube and rail stations. In Euston you might require assistance for a manual boarding ramp at some trains. The nearest bus stops are at Euston Station, Warren Street Station and Euston Square Station: the route is wheelchair accessible but please note some stops involve crossing a main road. Transport for London’s enquiry line (020 7222 1234) can advise on accessible routes, or visit their website.
Parking at UCL
The nearest disabled parking spaces are located on Gower Street, Huntley Street and Endsleigh Gardens, approximately 5, 10 and 10 minutes respectively from our building. Cars can also drop off passengers outside the front entrance on Gower Street.
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs may be taken into the building.
Hearing facility
Our spaces do not have induction loops, unfortunately. The IAS Common Ground has a console from which we can connect a jack ¼" to an irig device or similar. The IAS Forum does not have any equipment. Do please contact us here in advance so that we can either swap rooms or let the event organisers know the adjustments required.
Sign language
If you require a BSL interpreter for an event, please contact us at least three weeks in advance.
Toilets
There is one accessible toilet next to the access to the IAS. The toilet door has a button to open the door automatically. There is another accessible toilet downstairs, accessible via the lift next to the access to the IAS.

We usually serve some refreshments at our events. If you have any allergies or have any special requirements, please contact us here.

They consent to recordings being made available publicly by UCL under the CC-BY-ND (Creative Commons-Attribution-NoDerivatives 2.0 UK) licence. Where material is included in the recording which is the copyright of a third party or protected by any other intellectual property right, the speaker has obtained permission to include those materials in the lecture for educational purposes.
