VIRTUAL - Writers of the Anthropocene: Pola Oloixarac

This event is part of the Writers of the Anthropocene series, a collaboration between UCL Anthropocene and IAS.

Pola Oloixarac is one of the most astute and provocative intellectual commentators and fiction writers of her generation. She is the author of three novels Savage Theories (2014), Dark Constellations (2015) and Mona (2019). She has also contributed to publications including The New York Times, The Telegraph, Rolling Stone Magazine, Revista Clarín and is founding editor of the Buenos Aires Review, a bilingual journal that discusses contemporary literature of the Americas.

Her critically acclaimed novels deal with interrelated themes of political history, the 'apocalyptic trajectory of the anthropocene' and the role of science, literature and anthropology (among other disciplines) in making sense of the past, present and future of humans in the web of life.

Dr Emily Baker researches and teaches Comparative Literature and Latin American Cultural Studies at University College London. She has published a monograph entitled Nazism, the Second World War and the Holocaust in Latin American Fiction (Cambridge University Press, 2022) and is currently preparing a book on Contemporary Latin American Eco-Fictions.
