This workshop is designed to give you a breakthrough with a piece of academic writing you are finding difficult, whether it be a thesis chapter or an article you’re revising or a book proposal or whatever. It will be led by Nicola Baldwin, writer and director of theatre and film, and Nicola Miller, Director of the IAS and historian of Latin America, to bring together expertise in creative practice and experience in academic evaluation. The retreat will be held over two days to allow time for uninterrupted concentration and for things to change. Please bring along a piece of writing to the first session and come prepared to explain the difficulties you are having with it. We will all do a series of exercises to help us become unstuck. The evening gives time for reflection and for things to shift in our minds. The following morning, we will reconvene, compare notes, and continue the process of moving forward with our pieces of writing, hopefully feeling less stuck and re-inspired by the process itself.
