Academic debates on contact between people during imperialism and colonialism produced various concepts of space, e.g. the “frontier”, “contact zone”, or “third space”. Using approaches from disciplines like anthropology in combination with historical research, the talk will shed light on the transformation of environmental perception in and of Utongwe, Eastern Africa. By using a heterogeneous selection of archive sources it is meant to contribute new ideas about the history of Utongwe and the history of its ambiguous perception.
All welcome. Please note that there may be photography and/or audio recording at some events and that admission is on a first come first served basis. Please follow this FAQ link for more information on accessibility and other questions. All our events are free but you can support the IAS here.
