The book is based on the author’s PhD at the Slade, for which she interviewed 33 professional artists, including a number of Slade staff, about their experiences of creating new works of art. Drawing on these interviews, and on reflections on her own art practice, the author takes the reader inside the creative process, using psychoanalytic theory, particularly the work of Donald Winnicott, Marion Milner and Christopher Bollas, to shed light on such questions as where new ideas come from and the states of mind artists experience as they work.
Running order:
- Short author presentation
- Round table discussion of the book by Professor Dryden Goodwin (Slade School of Fine Art), Professor Ken Robinson (psychoanalyst and visiting Professor of Psychoanalysis at Northumbria University) and the author.
