Tuline Gülgönen

Critical Childhood Studies Centre Virtual Visiting Research Fellow, March-August 2025

Tuline Gülgönen is an independent researcher and a popular educator working in the field of childhood studies. She develops artistic and activist research projects on the relationship of children and youth to the urban environment, using hybrid methods including critical cartography, video and sound. The embodied and emotional dimensions of the urban experience, linked to issues of social and environmental justice, are central to her concerns. Much of her work has been developed in Mexico and Berlin.

She is part of the collective orangotango and gives lectures and seminars at various academic institutions. She is the co-director of the documentary film Ciudad Grande and of numerous publications

Project summary

As a virtual fellow at CCSC, Tuline aims to systematise her work on critical mapping in relation to children and childhood. In addition to an open dialogue with researchers from different disciplines at the Centre to understand how this tool can be used within critical childhood studies, she will organise a workshop on critical mapping with researchers and students.
