Lectureship - Advanced Biomaterials

UCL:  Institute for Materials Discovery

Applications are invited for a Lecturer post in Advanced Biomaterials at the Institute for Materials Discovery, University College London.
 
The inspiring postholder will perform and lead cutting edge research in advanced biomaterials and deliver outstanding teaching and student experience within the Institute for Materials Discovery at Masters  level, and establish clinical and industry engagements. The appointee is expected to contribute significantly towards the established MSc programme in Advanced Materials Science as well as the supervision of MSc and PhD students.
 
The appointee will also actively interact with other academic and interdisciplinary units throughout UCL, Francis Crick Institute, University College London Hospitals, Royal Free Hospital, Moorfields Eye Hospital, and elsewhere in fostering interdisciplinary advanced biomaterials research, and translation towards clinical and healthcare applications. This include close collaboration across physical sciences, engineering, biomedical sciences, life sciences and biological sciences. 
 
The postholder will deliver the postgraduate taught curriculum in advanced biomaterials, and ensuring the delivery of world leading and high quality research, and research led teaching. The postholder will be expected to be proactively, innovatively and exercise a high degree of responsibilities.
 
The appointment is an open ended contract and is available to start on 1st April 2021.
Key Requirements
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Materials Science/Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering Biochemistry, Materials Chemistry, Biophysics or equivalent in a relevant area, together with a strong track record of international research excellence in Materials Discovery, Advanced Biomaterials and their translations for healthcare and biomedical applications.
 
The appointee will need to have experience in teaching Material Science/Engineering or related subjects, especially in advanced biomaterials,  bionanomaterials and bio-nanotechnology at undergraduate degree level and/or Masters level. In addition, the postholder also has experience in supervising multidisciplinary postgraduate research projects covering biomaterials design and discovery, processing and characterisation, biomedical device fabrication and testing as well as their translations towards clinical use.
 
The appointee will also have excellent English verbal and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills relating to staff and students in a research, teaching and learning context. A commitment to acquiring new work-related skills and to maintaining up-to-date skills and knowledge up to date is also an essential requirement.
