It is important to highlight that, as with the Hope-Goldthorpe Score, this class schema was devised for men. For cross-cultural comparisons Goldthorpe and Llewellyn (1987) suggests combining classes I and II, and classes V and VI. However, it is desirable to distinguish the agricultural component within classes IV and VII and, if possible, to separate small proprietors into those with and without employees.
