BSc Information in Society Careers and Alumni

As a graduate of the BSc Information in Society programme, you will develop the following skills and attributes to prepare you for a wide range of life and career choices:  

  • The technical skills needed to create, organise, manage and disseminate data and information.
  • The humanities skills needed to effectively design, develop, model, and deploy solutions to issues facing society.
  • The communication skills to articulate your knowledge to a range of audiences and explore ways of exchanging ideas in writing and orally, whether online or face to face.
  • Knowledge of how to work confidently and collaboratively alongside peers, professionals, or community partners.
  • Able to work with information, people and organisations in an ethical manner, and understand the role of ethics in information decisions.   

You may also choose to go on to further study, and would be a strong candidate for Masters degrees in the Department of Information Studies (knowledge, information and data science, digital humanities, publishing, library science, and archival science), as well as in adjacent fields such as the humanities, social sciences, and technology degrees, for example. 

With an interdisciplinary background that combines humanities and technology, strong communication and leadership skills, and embedded exposure to collaboration strategies, we believe that graduates of the BSc Information in Society should be attractive to employers with real-world problems to solve. 

The programme is designed to prepare you for a range of future-focused and information-driven careers, both in the UK and internationally. You will graduate ready to contribute to a number of fields, including: 

  • Policy, research, and consultancy organisations 
  • Data analysis and information management 
  • Charitable/third sector organisations and social enterprise 
  • The creative industries and cultural heritage, including libraries, archives, museums, publishing, journalism, and digital humanities organisations. 
  • Tech companies and startups
  • Government 
  • Education
