The Centre for Critical Recordkeeping Studies launched in 2022 as a replacement for the Department of Information Studies' former centre covering archives and records management which was called the International Centre for Archives and Records Management Research (ICARUS). ICARUS was founded by the Department of Information Studies in 2005 and many of the same core people were involved.
The aim behind the relaunch has been to emphasise the critical element more strongly in the centre's positioning and to provide a fresh platform for communicating about our archives and records management research and practice.
