Research
I am a part-time PhD student researching the relationship between the London Library and the national oeuvre of the UK. Using big data text mining techniques within the Digital Humanities I am currently triangulating the books published by Victorian London Library members with books they borrowed from and donated to the Library. I have been a chartered librarian for over 25 years and have worked in a number of public and private libraries. In 2006 I joined the London Library as Head of Reader Services and took on my current role as Archive, Heritage & Development Librarian in 2013. I speak and write regularly about the Library. My primary supervisor is Professor Melissa Terras, Director of the UCL Centre for Digital Humanities. My secondary supervisor is Anne Welsh, Lecturer at UCL Department of Information Studies. My research sits at the intersection between book history, library history and the history of ideas. I am particularly interested in the leverage the Digital Humanities affords to heritage collections for interrogating and articulating their significance in a holistic way - and the potential that offers for generating new strategic possibilities for the future.
