LIS participation at the 12th international COLIS conference

The Library and Information Studies programme at UCL DIS will be well represented this year at the 12thInternational Conceptions of Library and Information Science conference, which is to be held at the University of Strathclyde in June 2025. Lecturer and Programme Director, Debbie Lee, will be presenting a full paper, The knowledge organisation of sub-subgenres: the curious case of the collaborative works of Gilbert and Sullivan, relating to recent research in music knowledge organisation. Associate Professor, Alison Hicks, will be presenting two short papers, the first of which, Combat and Sacrifice: The culture of information crisis in librarianship, explores how crisis terminology is used within LIS and the second of which, Singing in the rain: the role of umbrella concepts in Library and Information Science, examines how umbrella concepts shape disciplinary thinking. Teaching Lecturer and PhD student, Darren Flynn, will present a poster, UK academic librarianship as a Bourdieusian field: the levels and distribution of capital through latent class analysis, which looks at social class in UK academic librarianship. Alison will also be serving as a mentor in the associated Doctoral Forum, while recent UCL post doc, Rebecca Noone, will be presenting on research related to art and archival studies.
