Charlie Inskip

I joined UCL's Department of Information Studies in 2013 and I teach core modules Managing collections and Supporting information users and optional module Information Literacy. I am an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer), and Programme Director of the MA Library and Information Studies course.

Previously I have worked in academic and public libraries, and special collections, and have taught at City University London (Information Management), University of Westminster (Research Methods) and London Metropolitan University (Music and Media Management).

I worked in the music industry (management, PR), and used this experience to inform my AHRC-funded PhD, "Upbeat and Quirky, With a Bit of a Build”. This investigated information needs of creative professionals around the use of music in film, TV and advertising.

I have recently concluded work on a CILIP Information Literacy Group (ILG)-funded project, 'On The Move', exploring the graduate transition of information literacies into the workplace. Earlier research, in collaboration with Society of College, National and University Libraries (SCONUL) and Research Information Network (RIN) examined the delivery of information literacy and digital scholarship in UK Higher Education and related documents can be found in my research blog, 'RILADS'.

I am principal supervisor for 2 PhD students in the Department, whose focus is in information literacy and information needs and behaviour:

  • Reham Alhuraiti
  • Yaming (Cindy) Fu

I am a member of Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), British Computer Society (BCS), International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML UK & Irl), Special Libraries Association (SLA), and American Library Association (ALA).

I am on the board of InformAll and I was a member of the CILIP Information Literacy Project Board. I am a member of the CILIP Information Literacy Group.

I am currently completing a book on information literacy for Facet Publications. I wrote a column for CILIP's Update magazine on Music Information Retrieval and continue to be a contributor.
