Identity in Muslim UK young adult literature

Research summary

I am working on a qualitative research project that firstly investigates how narratives of identity are constructed within a corpus of Muslim UK young adult novels published between 2010-2020, and secondly considers how these aspects of identity are conceptualised by adolescent women readers.

This research will contribute to the growing body of work centred on inclusive youth literature.

Research interests

Young adult literature, race, place, gender, culture, identity, postcolonialism, feminism, intersectionality, embodiment.

Wider interests

Children’s literature, picture books, graphic novels, critical race theory, food.
