Tissue Engineering and Cell Matrix Mechanisms

cheema, umber

Umber Cheema is Senior Lecturer in tissue engineering at the division of surgery and interventional sciences.  She is Graduate Tutor (Research) for the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science.

Her research interests includes engineering vasculature networks in 3D engineered tissues, understanding the mechanisms native matrix density and composition had made on engineering networks. Her work also focuses on controlling elements of collagen architecture to build biomimetic tissues in vitro.

After gaining a PhD in tissue engineering of skeletal muscle from UCL in 2004 her postdoctoral studies included a BBSRC David Phillips fellowship.  In 2015 she became senior lecturer in tissue engineering.
