Our next IIT externmal seminar will take place on the 8th of June at the Pears Building/online. Prof. Sarah Rowland-Jones from the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford will be speaking on 'Comobidities in adolescent survivors of perinatal HIV infection in Zimbabwe - a tale of two viruses?'
About the Speaker
Professor Sarah Rowland-Jones trained in medicine in Cambridge and Oxford Universities, and then in Infectious Diseases in London and Oxford. She leads a research group in the Nuffield Department of Medicine in Oxford that focuses on host-pathogen interactions in viral infection, particularly HIV-1 and HIV-2 infections. Between 2004 and 2008 she was Research Director of the MRC Laboratories, the Gambia. A key focus of her current work is investigating the mechanisms that underlie the poor health of many African survivors of perinatal HIV infection, in collaboration with Professor Rashida Ferrand in Harare. Since November 2018 she has divided her time between Oxford and Sheffield University, where she is Florey Professor of Infection and Immunity and an Honorary Consultant in adult Infectious Diseases at Sheffield Teaching Hospital Trust.
