Methodology

The INEQ-CITIES Project followed a systematic protocol to collect, harmonise, analyse and present social inequalities in mortality.  INEQ-CITIES researchers from 14 partner countries worked together to create population, socio-economic and mortality databases for 16 cities throughout Europe.  These rich datasets were analysed in order to create the maps shown in this Atlas.

To achieve the evidence needed to showcase socio-economic inequalities in mortality throughout cities in Europe, the coordinating research centre of INEQ-CITIES, Agència de Salut Pública de Barcelona, implemented advanced methods in statistical analysis to estimate socio-economic indicators and mortality ratios.
