Since 2009, the INEQ-CITIES Project has been studying the small-area distribution of social and health inequality within cities across Europe, in order to reveal the geographical segregation of different social groups. Such a comparison is highly revealing because of the vast social, political and economic differences across regions of Europe; from East to West and North to South. These inequalities are reflected in the clustering of socio-economic deprivation and excess mortality within specific small areas of cities.
