Inclusive and Supportive Education Conference (ISEC) 2020

Closing the Research to Practice Gap

In light of the unprecedented challenges we face during the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent restrictions it places on global events, the UCL Institute of Education has taken the decision to postpone ISEC 2020 London until August 2021. We did not take this decision lightly but felt it would be the best course of action to insure the safety of those involved since we have participants from all around the world and there is still so much uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus. We can confirm that the conference will now take place from Tuesday 3rd August to Thursday 5th August 2021. Obviously we are disappointed since we had put together such a strong programme for this year's conference but we also recognise that we can build an even more exciting event next year.
The theme of ISEC 2020 London is Closing the Research to Practice Gap. During the conference we will explore new perspectives on how to translate academic enquiry into practical, workable strategies with which educators can support the lives of children and young people living with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The IOE is situated in the heart of London's Bloomsbury district within walking distance of historic Covent Garden, the bars, restaurants and theatres of the West End and such landmarks as the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace.

During the ISEC 2020 conference we will explore the interrelationship between researchers, educational practitioners and parents examining the unique role each has in applying theory to practice and creating environments for a lasting and positive change.

We will address such commonly asked questions as:

  • Do researchers share the same priorities as practitioners?
  • Do academics and teachers share a common language?
  • What are the barriers to productive and successful co-operation?
