UNAIDS-Lancet Commission Report Launch Symposium

On June 25 2015, The Lancet will publish Defeating AIDS―Advancing Global Health, a major new report by the Commission on AIDS and Global Health. The Commission is chaired by Peter Piot, Director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, H. E Joyce Banda, former President, Republic of Malawi,and Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson, African Union Commission and convened by Richard Horton, Editor-in-Chief, The Lancet and Michel Sidibé, Executive Director, UNAIDS.

The Commission, composed of 33 distinguished global leaders, summarises the lessons from the AIDS response, remaining challenges to expand access to prevention and treatment, so as to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030, and discusses what these lessons and challenges hold for the future of global health as we face the post-2015 era still working at ending AIDS but also many new and chronic health challenges.

During the Symposium, Peter Piot, Richard Horton and Michel Sidibé will be joined by a number of Commissioners and Report authors to discuss the findings and implications of the Commission's Report for the future of the AIDS response.
