Congratulations are in order for eHealth members Paula Alves, who was recently awarded her PhD with distinction from the University of Lisbon, and Shoba Poduval who successfully completed her PhD Upgrade.
UCLPartners Supported Research reveals diabetes screening alone won't have an impact on number of people developing the disease.
UCLPartners and Newham CCG supported research, published in the BMJ this month, suggests that the national programme to prevent people developing Type 2 diabetes is unlikely to have a major impact. You can read more about this by following the link below.

SPCR Winter Newsletter
The eHealth Unit's associate director and senior lecturer, Fiona Stevenson, appears in the winter edition of the SPCR Newsletter. Along with an article on her new project HArnessing Resources from the Internet (HARI) in collaboration with Bristol, Oxford and Southampton Universities.
Rosa Lau's work in addressing the evidence to practice gap in primary care and the eHealth Unit's video with ITN News are also mentioned.

NHS Alliance and ITN Productions
The UCL ehealth unit has collaborated with NHS Alliance and ITN Productions to produce a short film celebrating innovation and new ways of working in Primary Care.
With the challenges facing Primary Care and the NHS more generally, including a larger and aging population, budget constraints, and higher expectations of care standards, ehealth is recognized as a key component in achieving more for less. The film features several of the interventions developed by the eHealth Unit including work in areas of alcohol, safer sex and diabetes. It showcases the HeLP-Diabetes Programme, which was developed by the eHealth Unit and implemented via Help-Digital, a Community Interest Company led by UCL, as a working example of how research has been practically implemented into CCGs to the benefit of the NHS and patients.

Tech Sharing Seminar: Evaluating digital interventions - challenging prevailing paradigms
September saw the return of the UCL Tech Sharing seminar, a quarterly half-day workshop aimed at sharing multidisciplinary knowledge and experience of working with technology and digital interventions.
This term's seminar focused on challenging the paradigms currently ingrained in the design and evaluation of healthcare interventions.

New Members of the eHealth Unit
The eHealth Unit would like to welcome two new PhD students; Paulina Bondaronek and Clare Oakland, as well as Marie-Laure Morelli who has joined as a Clinical Research Fellow, working on HeLP-Diabetes.
In other news congratulations to Elizabeth Murray, Director of the eHealth Unit, who has taken on the role of Head of Research Department of the Primary Care and Population Health Department.

People Driven unAwards
The Help-Diabetes team recently received the award of Finalist at the People Driven Digital unAwards 2015, in the category of 'most impressive digitally-enabled health/social care service'. The awards ceremony was held on the 3rd July 2015. For more information on the awards and the finalists follow the link below.
Technology Sharing Seminars
The eHealth unit conducts a series of regular health technology sharing seminars, where people from a variety of backgrounds (including clinical, psychology and technology) come together to discuss issues related to the field of eHealth and to share lessons learned from developing, evaluating and implementing eHealth interventions. The latest seminar, held on Wednesday 15th April 2015, focused on engagement with digital interventions and was, by far, the most popular seminar yet with 70 registered attendees.
The seminar explored the different methods used to enhance and prolong engagement with digital interventions, with perspectives from academia and industry. Presentations included:
- The effectiveness of technology-based strategies to promote engagement with digital interventions by Ghadah Alkhaldi (UCL eHealth Unit)
- The art of engagement by David Crane (UCL Department of Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology)
- The importance of sustained engagement with activity trackers by Daniel Harrison (UCL Interaction Centre)
- Using a person-based approach to promote engagement with digital health behaviour change interventions' from guest speaker Dr Leanne Morrison (Southampton University)
- and a keynote speech from Erbil Karaman, Product Management Lead at Facebook in London, about Facebook's success in engaging their users.
