The RESIST Study

resist

Depression is known to be associated with the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD), and it is thought that inflammatory processes may play a particularly important role in this relationship.

What is this study about?

The Resist Study is investigating the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying inflammatory activation in patients with depression. In particular, this project hopes to elucidate the role of regulatory T cells (cells which regulate immune function) and associated proteins.

What do I need to do if I want to participate?

The study aims to recruit 60 people with depression. Each participant is assessed at two-time points and asked to complete some short questionnaires and provide a blood and saliva sample. Stress hormones and immune cells are then measured in the laboratory.

This study is funded by a PhD studentship from the British Heart Foundation.
