Understanding cervical screening non-attendance in older women from hard to reach groups

Cervical screening uptake has been falling in older women (age 50-64 years), and is particularly low among women from socially deprived and ethnic minority backgrounds in this age group.  A significant proportion of women who have never attended for screening appear to be unaware of the programme.  With a view to designing interventions to increase informed participation in screening, this study aims to explore awareness of and attitudes towards screening in these groups, using qualitative methods.

The project has been active since January 2017 and is funded by Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust for 12 months.
