Patient experiences of and psychological responses to lung cancer screening (PEOPLE study)

While the clinical evidence base for implementing low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening for lung cancer is advancing, less attention has been paid to the experience of patients; something which should shape the delivery of any future screening programme to maximise patient benefit.  This is a mixed-methods project aiming to investigate psychological outcomes of and responses to lung cancer screening, and identify modifiable aspects of patient experience and communication to support behaviour change and adaptive psychological responses.  This evidence will inform the development of an online training module in patient-centred communication for health professionals delivering LDCT screening.

This project will be active from January 2017-December 2018 and is funded by a Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation project grant awarded to Dr Jo Waller and Dr Samantha Quaife.
