IEHC Equality Action Group
UCL's Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care (IEHC) Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Team (SAT) was established in 2011. We renamed the team the IEHC Equality Action Group (EAG) in July 2018, to acknowledge the intersectional nature of inequality, and to emphasise our commitment to action. We have 22 EAG members who are diverse in terms of seniority and Academic, Research, and Professional Service roles.
The team are advocates for parents and carers, Black and Minority Ethnic staff, people with disabilities, sexual minorities and transgender people, either speaking from our own experience, or as allies.
IEHC was awarded an Athena SWAN Silver award in (date) after receiving a Bronze award in (date).
The Equality Challenge Unit (ECU)’s Athena SWAN is a national charter mark that recognises the advancement of gender equality in higher education: representation, progression and success for all. It was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employed in higher education and research. Find out more about Athena Swan's Charter on the Athena Swan website.
The Athena SWAN awards process enables departments and universities to develop an action plan aimed at improving recruitment, retention and promotion of female academic and research staff, as well improving work to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women.
