Searching for information

This tutorial uses a series of videos and activities to demonstrate some top tips for enhancing your searching skills. Please note, if you logged into Moodle as a guest, you will not be able to complete the 'test yourself' questions.

This tutorial works through the steps involved in developing and carrying out a successful literature search using biomedical databases. It should take approximately 20-30 minutes.

This lesson is based on UCL Library Services' face-to-face training session 'Introduction to Search Strategies for Systematic Reviews of Interventions'. This is an advanced session that takes literature searching beyond the basics.

The session aims to give students an insight into carrying out a structured, comprehensive, replicable search using biomedical sciences literature databases and focuses on intervention-based systematic reviews. The learning points can readily be applied to other types of systematic review.

This UCL Moodle course is available to all UCL students and staff and looks at the skills associated with researching for, and writing an extended piece of work. Module 4 focuses on the literature review, and includes a section on searching for literature.
