ITV, the UK’s largest commercial broadcaster, has launched an internship programme for technology and data science graduates with UCL. ITV’s Hub video on demand and live streaming service reaches more than 27 million customer accounts and is one of the most popular services in the UK.

The internship is led by members of ICCS and the departments of Electronic and Electrical Engineering and involving Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science departments.

Now in its second year, the exclusive internships which start in June, will focus on offering placements across a number of fields.  There will be initiatives using data science techniques such as machine learning and predictive modelling to solve business problems.  There will be exciting opportunities for students who are keen to develop their skills in software development, video engineering, cyber security and to learn about emerging technologies in the sector such as voice and conversational technology.

Through these placements ITV will be able to learn about improving viewing behaviour, platform development, product decision-making and to ultimately deliver a better service for viewers, fans and employees. ITV’s advanced data and engineering platforms provide the opportunity to learn and to solve real world problems and they will be working in a supportive environment, where ITV will offer coaching as well as exposure to a number of experienced teams. Interns will be encouraged to contribute and develop their skills whilst they work at the TV company, all in the heart of London and in a dynamic media environment.

Clive Santamaria, Chief Architect, ITV Technology said:

There has never been a better time to develop a career in key skills across software engineering, technology, data or cyber security.
Our aim is to enable the development of new technologies that will allow us to support the growth of the business and create an environment where we are able to grow and develop our colleagues, interns and partnerships. We need a diverse team with skills, mindsets and quality to push us forward. By collaborating with us, we believe that UCL interns can play a key role in achieving this.
We are committed to supporting the development of talented individuals by offering a full suite of opportunities including the summer internships,  2 year graduate training programmes and year long placements.
Last year’s ITV - UCL scheme was hugely successful and included internships for students from Data analytics and Machine Learning, Computer Science and Electronic Engineering backgrounds. Opportunities for those from mathematics and cyber security disciplines were also available.  We are delighted to be partnering with UCL again, highlighting a shared commitment to work with the broadcast and technology industry and develop talented individuals and prepare them for exciting careers to solve key problems for the UK and across the world.

The internship scheme and graduate scheme are open for applications now - you can get information get in touch with careers.engineering@ucl.ac.uk, or apply here through UCL. ITV’s graduate scheme application process closes at the end of January.
