Abstract

This chapter reflects on the IP world in the pre-IPKat age and the time of IPKat’s birth in 2003. It looks first at the sparsity of case law sources available to IP lawyers between the 1960s (when the author commenced life as an IP barrister) through to the first years of the new millennium, when IPKat came on stream, offering a welcome and much-needed resource. The chapter then turns to consider some of the IP cases decided by the author in 2003 (the year he transitioned from the High Court of England and Wales to the Court of Appeal), and picks out some notable IPKat posts of the same year.
