The UCL Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction (IRDR), UCL Humanitarian Institute, and Thinking Development warmly invite you to join us for an evening of fundraising and discussion, to mark the 7th anniversary since the magnitude 7 earthquake hit Haiti on January 12th 2010.
Come along for talks, video and visual displays, a raffle and reception, to discuss issues of disaster response and resilience in Haiti. We will hear from representatives of academia, development practice, and the Haitian community (final list of speakers will be posted here).
Thinking Development, an NGO set up by UCL students at the time of the earthquake to sustainably rebuild a destroyed primary school in downtown Port-au-Prince, will be showcasing the opening of the new Centre Rosalie classroom buildings (watch school opening video here: http://bit.ly/SchoolCeremony). They will be sharing their journey and learnings of the past 7 years on issues of community-led development and girls' education.
Please be advised that tickets must be booked in advance. Your admission ticket will grant you 1x raffle ticket, with more available for purchase at the venue. Fabulous prizes include music by Haitian artists, concert tickets, entry to Kew Gardens, New Year food-and-pamper hamper, cinema tickets, jewellery, and more.
All proceeds will go to Thinking Development, to aid the next stage of the Centre Rosalie reconstruction (kindergarten repair and solar kitchen).
We really look forward to seeing you there and sharing this evening with you - friends, colleagues, supporters, old and new.
