Women in Research (WiR) 2022/23

Explore your career options and leadership aspirations; open to self-identifying female research or teaching staff at grades 6b-8.

About the programme

The 2022/23 programme launches with the 2022 Women in Research Conference.

A series of six intensive online masterclasses follows, tackling burning issues from decision-making in an uncertain world to impact, wellbeing, and authentic leadership.

Each masterclass will be followed by a small-group session, where discussions and support will be offered in a confidential setting.

Masterclass 1: Open science, funding and technology to increase reach

Join us to explore the future  of research and the skills and mindsets required to thrive  in this challenging environment. We will explore funding sources, how to  share and trust data  (FAIR data, pre-prints), technology advancements in research techniques (AI, automation, digital transformation) and the role of women in driving this transformation.

Masterclass 2: Working in teams and leading upwards to increase impact

How do we influence peers and leaders in our work? How do team dynamics work? What are the important roles which you can take to build an inclusive team? What do we call distributive leadership?

Masterclass 3: Solving future challenges through transdisciplinarity

Accessing the programme

Please register for the Masterclasses using Inkpath/OLM. The links to sessions will be distributed to registered participants before the event.

Past webinars, additional resources and forums for Women in Research programme can also be accessed via a dedicated Moodle course. You will be automatically enrolled by course administrators after you register on Inkpath/OLM.

Registrations on small-group coaching seminars are available to masterclass participants only (details will be shared during the webinar).

Learning outcomes

By the end of this leadership programme, you will:

  • Understand theories and frameworks of personal and leadership development, de-construct common myths around leadership and reflect on and assess your preferred leadership style
  • Determine the purpose, pathway and impact of your research, looking beyond its current scope.
  • Improve your ability in self-leadership, motivation, organisation and time management
  • Improve your ability to collaborate and connect with others to further research and personal goals
  • Explore potential career pathways within and outside research and develop a personalised career action plan with clear and attainable goals
  • Have a plan to manage the impact of your time spent outside of your research
  • Join a community of female researchers

Eligibility

Open to all women research or teaching staff at grades 6-8 (including trans women and non-binary people who are comfortable in a female-centred community).
